New Year, New Parent, New Me
It’s that time of year again. You know, the time of year where we are forced to start a new lease on life. Well, this year we’re changing it up a bit. We are getting rid of the pressure of resolutions and setting out on a journey of positive intentions.
Intentional shopping is at the top of the list. Did anyone else fill their homes up with questionable things from Amazon? Gone are the days of splurging in the name of a stressful day or as a form of therapy. We all love a trend-forward outfit, but trends come and go (even when it comes to baby clothes) and though we aren’t saying to Marie Kondo your entire life, we do believe practicality and simplicity are key to intentional shopping. So today, we set out on the intention of buying basics that are practical for us, practical for the tiny humans in our lives, and practical for the planet.
Next up on the list of positive intentions is mindfulness. What is “mindfulness” anyway? If the dreaded year of 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that we should take a purposeful approach to experiences and live in the moment - and well, that’s what “mindfulness” is, (or at least that's what Google and people with less anxiety tell us).
Easier said than done, but as the new year begins, let’s aim to be present. Leave the phone on the countertop (or sneak in a quick pic and put it back) and relish in all the baby giggles, cries, hair pulling, sibling screaming etc. When your baby is napping, try to enjoy a meal (like really enjoy it). These few extra minutes of intentional presence may just be the key to starting the year out on a more positive note... or at least a parent can dream!
