TELL US ABOUT YOUR PARENTING JOURNEY AND HOW YOU BECAME A PARENT?

We adopted Finley in Sept 2020 at 3 months old. After experiencing 3 failed birth mother opportunities we got a call on a Monday, flew to Iowa on Wed, and had Finley by Friday!

HOW DO YOU SPLIT PARENTING RESPONSIBILITIES?

In our house we try to split responsibilities very equally. One thing that benefits us as a gay family is that we don’t feel the societal “norms” like some families may feel. We both cook, clean, change diapers, set and attend appointments, etc…..

TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU DIVIDE AND CONQUER A TYPICAL DAY WITH LIFE & PARENTING?

Honestly, we both thoroughly enjoy spending time with our son and conquer the day as a unified front to show Finley we are always here and equally invested in his day to day life and well-being.

WHAT DOES MODERN PARENTING MEAN TO YOU?

Modern parenting to us means utilize what we have been taught by our parents, grandparents, family, and friends and restructuring it to fit the dynamics of our family. We have so many AMAZING people in our lives that we have learned from and it excites us to pass that knowledge down to our son in our own unique way.

FAVORITE PARENTING HACK?

Cocomelon and food LOL!

ONE (REGISTRY ITEM) YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT:

Baby Brezza

ONE (REGISTRY ITEM) YOU WISH YOU SKIPPED/NEVER USED:

Diaper Genie

BEST ADVICE FOR NEW PARENTS:

Follow your gut and trust judgement. There are plenty resources out there to help you out, but you have to remember no one knows your child better than you do. Also, have fun and cherish every moment as they grow up way too fast.

BIGGEST SHOCK WHEN YOU BECAME A PARENT (SOMETHING NO ONE TOLD YOU ABOUT, BUT EVERYONE KNOWS)?

Hand, foot, & mouth and RSV!!! We had no idea about these daycare germs or how bad they could be!

FUNNIEST PARENTING MOMENT SO FAR?

Having our first blow out diaper while traveling with no changing table in sight!
